Sacred Maori Taiaha Spear
(MNZT2)
The Maori considered the Taiaha a special sacred weapon. It is styled like a spear and is double ended. This means that the top part, which is like a spear top, was using in a stabbing motion. The bottom is more like a club or blade and was used for hitting or cutting. In the hands of a master, this was a considerable weapon which could offer serious damage.
This souvenir version is a little smaller than the original measuring 40 cm (15 inch) long and 3.5 cm wide (1 1/2 inch). The Taiaha comes in a black presentation box. The weapon features a traditional Maori design etched into the spear and paua inlays along the shaft. It is also decorated with feathers.
