Deer Bone Koru Pendant
(DBC005)
Deer bone pendant in the style of the traditional Maori Koru. The pendant is carved by hand and also the materials used in, Deer Bone, are naturally shed by the deer and therefore no animals are hurt in the creation of the pendant.
New Zealand has a very large deer farming business. This business produces many products one of which is the antlers of the deer. Each year a deer will grow and then shed it's antlers. The deer's antlers grow from what is called the bud and it usually takes 4 months for the antlers to reach maturity.
When the deer sheds it's antlers what is left behind is a hard piece of bone called a "button" or "Coronet", this piece of bone is naturally shed from the deer, this allows the bud to be exposed and the deer can grow new antlers in spring.
This button or coronet is what is used to produce this wonderful Koru carving.
The Koru This koru is inspired by the uncurling fern frond, it is known to represent peace, tranquillity, personal growth, positive change ad awakening, new life and harmony.
The Pendant The deer bone pendant is presented on a gift box, it comes with an information card and the actual button the pendant has been carved from.
This pendant measures 45mm Diameter. It comes with a waxed black cord with a deer bone toggle.
