Maori Weapon Mere / Patu.
The mere was also known by other names, patu and waihaka. It was used in hand to hand combat by Maori. It was a skilled person who could handle the weapon and in the right hands it was deadly. The traditional meres were made from Bone, Greenstone or wood. Today it symbolises strength and power.
This Mere / Patu is made from rimu and measures 380mm/15 inch long and 115mm/4.5 inches wide.
